A DEXA scan will give us an overview of your overall bone health. This scan will enable us to assess your risk for developing Osteopenia and Osteoporosis (bone loss) and fractures (bone breaks).
Osteoporosis is a silent disease affecting the thickness and strength of the bone. It affects 50% of women and 20% of men over the age of 50.
The DEXA scan will measure your bone density (strength). It is a quick and painless scan with no special preparations required. An LVA (Lateral Vertebral Assessment) can also be done as part of the DEXA scan to screen your spine for any vertebral fractures.
An ultrasound scan uses high-frequency sound waves to capture and create images of the area that is being scanned.
Some of the medical ultrasound scans we deliver in the Killarney Outreach Clinic include:
•Abdomen
•Renal (kidneys)
•Abdomen/pelvis
• Carotid arteries
• Thyroid gland
• Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
Your GP will refer you to the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee indicating that you would like to attend the Clinic at the Killarney Outreach Clinic for your scan.
Our Killarney Outreach Clinic is located at Unit 5, The Courtyard, Fair Hill, Killarney V93 NF8N.
