The opportunity to build a new hospital on a green field site has afforded us the opportunity to put sustainability at the heart of all considerations when it came to the construction of the building.
The new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick will be our most sustainable hospital to date.
The site itself was chosen with this in mind. Located at the edge of Limerick City it has great access to public transport and will have facilities for pedestrians and cyclists. The new carpark will also have EV parking available.
Sustainable materials are being used where possible and the building will have a high-performance envelope and LED lighting. Alternative energy sources will be utilised such as air to water heat pump technology. All cooking will be done using electric power.
Every element of the patient journey has been put to the fore with significant investment made into the acoustics of the rooms and in optimising green space so that patients can recover in tranquillity.
