Our Journey
Towards a New Bon Secours Hospital Limerick
Bon Secours Health System has been on a significant journey since we took over the Barringtons hospital on George’s Quay in 2017. The site restrictions there have always meant our ambitions for the region have been to develop a state-of-the-art new hospital.
In 2021 we began on the journey towards a new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick at a green field site in Towlerton, Ballysimon, investing €190 million into the project.
The new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick is currently under construction and is on track to open in 2025.

Announcement of New Limerick Hospital
March 2021
We officially announced our plan to build a state-of-the-art new Bon Secours Hospital in Towlerton, Ballysimon, Co. Limerick.
New Hospital Design Team Announced
November 2021
We officially announced the design team responsible for the new Bon Secours Hospital in Towlerton, Ballysimon, Co. Limerick.
Planning Permission Granted
June 2022
Planning Permission for the new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick was granted.
Construction Begins
Feb 2023
Construction began on the new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick in Feb 2023 and was celebrated with a sod turning ceremony attended by the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar.
Clinical Service Hub leased by Bon Secours Health System and Alliance Medical Diagnostic Imaging Ltd.
Dec 2023
The building developed by Kirkland Investments is adjacent to the new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick, currently under-construction, which is opening in early 2025, and will form part of the overall service offering for the region. Read more >>
Latest Progress
August 2024
Construction is underway on the new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick at pace. The project is on track for the hospital to open its doors to patients in 2025.
