Dr Caoimhe Fahy qualified from University College Cork in 2003 and undertook Higher Medical Specialist Training in Dermatology in Ireland. She was then awarded a Clinical Research Fellowship from the Health Research Board of Ireland and completed a PhD from Trinity College Dublin in 2012 on a model of atopic dermatitis, this remaining a specialist area of clinical and research interest. With a Clinical Research Fellowship from the Irish Skin Foundation, Dr Fahy collaborated with consultant colleagues at the Department of Dermatology at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, USA) in two studies on adult and paediatric vulval skin disorders.
In 2016, having achieved specialist qualification, Dr Fahy was appointed Consultant Dermatologist at the Royal United Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Bath, UK, where she has worked until her current position at the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork. In Bath, Dr Fahy had specialist paediatric, vulval, biologic and lesion clinics and was part of the largest NHS teledermatology service, from secondary to primary care, in South West England. She was Lead for Paediatric Dermatology, Dermatology Biologics, Dermatology Medical undergraduate teaching and Dermatology Research. Dr Fahy does minor operative procedures of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, benign lesions and rashes.
Dr Fahy was a Senior Teaching Associate in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Bristol. She maintains a keen interest in clinical research, being a a co-founder of Skin@Bath Network, and having developed and progressed the successful dermatology research portfolio in Bath and the West of England in her roles as Local Specialty Research Lead for Dermatology and Divisional Research Lead for the West of England, Clinical Research Network of the National Institute of Health and Care Research from 2019 to 2024.
