The Medical Assessment Unit offers a same day Medical Assessment Service
Our M.A.U. has been developed to provide Rapid Access to Consultant opinion and a range of investigations for acute medical patients requiring urgent care.
Medical Assessment Services are available for a wide range of medical conditions EXCEPT the following:
Acute Abdomen/Surgical patients
Acute Chest Pain
Acute Mental illness
Acute Stroke
Any patient requiring Ventilator support
Trauma
Children less than 16 years of age
Consultation Process:
Following a comprehensive medical assessment and health screening, the patient will be discharged home with a management plan, or be admitted to hospital for further treatment.
Opening Hours:
9.00am - 3.30pm - Monday to Thursday (except Bank Holidays)
9.00am - 1.00pm - Friday
Costs
There are three levels of charges for patients attending the service depending on the extent of tests required.
Level A €295 - Basic Charge
Level B €395 - Intermediate Charge
Level C €495 - Maximum Charge
All of the above charges include the assessment fee and cost of all necessary investigations. In the event of the patient being admitted, the patient will only have to pay €120 assessment fee.
Should admission be required following assessment, patients require to have an appropriate level of private health insurance or an ability to self pay. Normal insurance shortfalls will apply where a patient attending the MAU is admitted as a patient and patients should check their insurance cover in this regard.
Dr Imran Saleem undertook his specialist training in Respiratory and General Medicine on the Irish Higher Medical Training Programme in major academic centres in Dublin and Galway.
Dr Saleem is enrolled on the Specialist Register of the Irish Medical Council in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine. He previously worked as Consultant in Respiratory and General Medicine at University Hospital, Galway and Roscommon. His areas of special interest are Sleep Apnea, COPD, Asthma, Bronchiectasis, Interstitial Lung Disease and Chronic Cough. He also receives General Medicine Referrals.
