The hospital affirms its commitment to meet its statutory obligations with respect to health and safety as set out in the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and associated legislation. The Bon Secours Health System Cork endeavors to ensure that its environmental facilities, work processes and medical services are designed to provide for optimum safety for patients, visitors and staff. Bon Secours Health System Cork is committed to ensuring the safety of all patients, visitors and staff and acknowledges the critical importance of fire safety in healthcare premises. The hospital has in place a robust fire safety management system which is based on observing the principles of fire prevention such as
• The avoidance of outbreaks of fire through risk assessment, containment and reduction of fire dangers
• The early detection of fire and early warning to patients, visitors and staff to facilitate effective emergency response (generally through the provision of a automatic Fire/Smoke Detection and Alarm System)
• The compartmentalisation of buildings and the provision of escape routes, which are protected from fire and smoke
• The limitation of the development and spread of fire through the use of appropriate fire resistant materials
•The containment of fire and smoke to the room where the fire originates (generally through the provision of self-closing fire doors and appropriate fire-stopping of the room)
• The Early suppression of fire
• Effective training and emergency procedures which prioritise patient safety
• Access and facilities for the fire service
In an effort to promote a healthier lifestyle for patients and staff, smoking is prohibited on the hospital grounds, which includes the entrances to the hospital, footpaths or in the carpark.
We ask that all patients, visitors and staff support this hospital wide initiative
