Dr Houlihan gratuated from NUI Galway in 2002. He joined the Higher Specialist Training programme in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2005.
In 2009, Dr Houlihan was awarded an MRC Clinical Training Fellowship (UK) and commenced his PhD focusing on the therapeutic effects of stem cells on Gut and Liver disease at the University of Birmingham, UK.
He was subsequently appointed as a Senioe Fellow with the Gastroenterology and Hepatology services working in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
In 2013, Dr Houlihan was appointed as Consultant Gastroenterolgist & Hepatologist in St Vincent's University Hospital (SVUH)
In 2014, Dr Houlihan was appointed as Director of Hepatology and Liver Transplanation in SVUH. As part of this role, he represented Ireland's interests at quarterly meeting of the "Liver Advisory Group" hosted by NHSBT UK.
He has extensive research interests in the field of both liver and gastrointestinal disease.
Dr Houlihan is the Clinical Lead for Research with the "Irish Hepatitis C Outcomes and Research Network" (ICORN). He has numerous publiciations in international journals in his area of interest.

Mr Muhammad Mushtaque is a Consultant General Surgeon at the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork. Mr Mushtaque graduated in 1994 and did his surgical training in Pakistan before receiving a Fellowship at the College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan 2000 (FCPS).
Mr Mushtaque undertook his Higher Surgical training in Ireland and was awarded a Fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeon in Ireland (FRCSI) 2003 and Intercollegiate Speciality Board Examination in Surgery FRCS (Gen) in 2009.

Dr O'Connell completed his medical degree in UCC before doing his postgraduate training between Ireland, North America and Australasia.
He has published 35 peer reviewed publiciations and 3 medical text book chapters across a range of Specialities including Lung Cancer, Cystic Fibrosis, Innate Immunity and Interstitial Lung Disease.
His research work from MD Anderson and John Hopkins on Endocronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) guided biopsy of lymph nodes in Lung Cancer staging was recently recognised internationally by the American Thoracic Society Oncology programme committee and by the awarding of the Jeffrey Lee Memorial Scholarship.
Dr O'Connell was previously National Medical Director for Heart and Lung Transplanation at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and Vice President of the Irish Hospital Consultants Assocation.
He was awarded the National Consultant Led Team of the year awards in 2016 and 2017 and continues his academic assocation as Assistant Professor of Medicine in UCD.

Kevin graduated from University College Dublin in 2000. Basic Surgical Training was carried out at the Cork University Hospital. He was awarded a Masters of Surgery (MCh) in 2007 through the Conway Institute, UCD after completing one year of fulltime basic science research into castrate resistant prostate cancer. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in Urology in 2010. Specialist urological training in Ireland was completed in 2012.
Following training in Ireland subspecialist training was carried out in Melbourne, Australia where he completed a fellowship in Robotic Uro-Oncology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
In August 2013 Kevin was appointed Consultant Urologist at the Western General Hospital (WGH), Edinburgh specialising in minimally invasive kidney and prostate cancer. In 2017 he returned to Ireland and was appointed Consultant Urologist at Cork University Hospital and University Hospital Waterford. He has introduced robotic assisted radical prostatectomy to the CUH serving the population of the South and Southwest. He is the current NCCP lead for prostate cancer at the CUH.

Mr Peter O’Leary is a Consultant General Surgeon in The Bon Secours Hospital Cork and Senior Lecturer in Surgery in University College Cork.
Peter is a fellowship trained General Surgeon with a sub-specialty interest in Breast and Endocrine Surgery. He is a graduate of the UCC medical class of 2007. During his surgical training, Peter was the recipient of a number of prestigious awards including the Ethicon/British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgery training scholarship, the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland Travelling Fellowship award and the Lynn Sage Breast Travelling Fellowship award. He completed a clinical fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology with dedicated oncoplastic training and a travelling fellowship to the Cleveland Clinic where he learned about the latest innovations in Endocrine Surgery. He has also undertaken a Cancer Genetics observership in the Royal Marsden.
Peter’s work in cancer research led to a PhD being awarded by UCC in 2013. He has over 60 peer reviewed publications and he has been awarded eight research prizes to date in recognition of this work. Peter has delivered a number of invited lectures and has presented his research worldwide. He has established a number of national and international research collaborations and serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Mesentery and Peritoneum.

Dr Jean O’Riordan is a Consultant Urologist originally from Watergrasshill, who has returned home to work full-time in the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork. She is a General Urologist with a subspecialty interest in incontinence.
She graduated from UCD in 2010 and completed her internship in the Mater Hospital in Dublin. She completed her specialist urology training in Australia and was awarded her fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2022. She completed a fellowship year in Concord Hospital in Sydney which was 6 months of oncology and 6 months of female andfunctional urology. She then completed a fellowship in University
College London Hospital in functional, reconstructive and adolescent urology. She was recently awarded the Alban Gee award at the USANZ annual meeting for the best poster presentation.

Consultant Laparoscopic General and Bariatric Surgeon
Mr. Colm O’Boyle was appointed to the Bon Secours Health System Cork as Consultant General Surgeon and Senior Clinical Lecturer in Surgery in January 2008. He is extensively experienced in laparoscopic surgery and trained in Dublin, Galway, Yorkshire and the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia prior to becoming lead clinician for surgical services at Hull Royal Infirmary in 2002. He has a particular interest in laparoscopic bariatric surgery and has been performing procedures for morbid obesity since 1998. He is one of the most experienced bariatric surgeons in the UK and Ireland. He is currently the council member representing Ireland on the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. He co-edited a book entitled Weightloss Surgery, A Comprehensive Medical Team Approach. He is a member of the International Federation for the Treatment of Surgical Obesity and British Obesity and Metabolic Surgical Society. His research interests include psychological aspects related to bariatric surgery, the affect of bariatric surgery on medical conditions, physiological consequences of anti-reflux surgery and evaluating new techniques in laparoscopic surgery. He has had a career interest in ongoing medical education and mentors final year medical students throughout the year. He is a member of faculty for the RCS Advanced Laparoscopic Training Course. He regularly performs most laparoscopic surgical interventions including Inguinal Hernia, Cholecystectomy, Incisional Hernia, Fundoplication, Splenectomy, Gastrectomy, Colectomy, Anterior Resection. He is expert at and routinely performs diagnostic and interventional colonoscopy and gastroscopy.

Mr Matthew Tyson is a specialist in both the surgical and medical treatment of Kidney Stone Disease and General Urology, including BPH and penoscrotal surgery. After graduating from the Cardiff University School of Medicine and completing Specialist Urological Training in Northern Ireland, Mr Tyson undertook a Urological Surgical Fellowship in New Zealand, focusing on Surgical Kidney Stone Management.
As a Consultant Urologist in Northern Ireland, Mr Tyson developed regional Stone Services for Complex Stone Surgery and ESWL, his work on which was awarded an Elective Care Recognition Award from the Department of Health NI. Mr Tyson has also undertaken an ADEPT Fellowship, achieved a NIMDTA Educational Excellence Award and completed a postgraduate ILM Level 7 for Clinical Leadership and Management.

Dr Modar Youssef has recently been appointed to the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork.
Dr Youssef completed his medical degree and was awarded Doctor of Medicine Diploma (MD) in 2000.
He enrolled in RCPI Basic Specialist Training in Medicine and was awarded RCPI BST- Medicine 2010. He completed RCPI membership examinations and was awarded MRCPI, RCPI 2013.
He was enrolled in the RCPI Registrar Training Programme in General Internal Medicine (RCPI RTP) completed 2 years of certified structured training and acquired wide experience in multiple GIM Sub-Specialities including: Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Medicine of Elderly, Stroke Rehabilitation and Respiratory medicine. He was awarded RCPI RTP GIM Certificate in 2014.
He worked as a Registrar in Respiratory medicine in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital for 2 years and in 2016 he started Five years RCPI Higher Specialist Training Scheme in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine. His training was between Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, St. Vincent's University Hospital, Beaumont University Hospital, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and Connolly Hospital.
He passed the European Respiratory Society ERS HERMES Speciality Examination September 2019 Madrid, Spain.
During his training he gained vast experience in all Respiratory medicine sub-specialities including one year in Heart and Lung Transplantation and Intensive Care Medicine. July 2021 he was awarded CSCST in Respiratory & General Internal Medicine by the RCPI.
In 2021 he was awarded Post-CSCST Clinical and Research fellowship by the RCPI in the field of Post COVID-19 in Connolly Hospital. During his fellowship he acquired extensive experience in management of Post Covid-19, Sleep Related Breathing Disorders, Airways Disease , ILD and Lung Cancer. His research was on Vitamin D deficiency and its correlation with the increased morbidity and mortality in Covid-19 and he published two papers on this subject.
He was appointed as Respiratory Consultant & General Physician in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 2022-2023.
His work in Beaumont included managing acute and chronic respiratory failure patients in the Respiratory Assessment (RAU)/Respiratory High Dependency Unit, patients in the Cystic Fibrosis unit and Respiratory Ward.
