Bariatric/Weight Loss Surgery

Bariatric surgery is weight-loss surgery.

For bariatric/weight loss surgery, you would have to be admitted to the hospital for a few days to have the surgery.  Most of the types of surgeries result in patients losing weight.  Most weight-loss surgeries are performed using minimally invasive techniques.  This means that you would have very few scars.

Patients are eligible for surgery if their weight is more than 45kg above their ideal weight.  If a patient's Body Mass Index (BMI) is 35-39 and they also have other medical issues, they may be eligible for weight-loss surgery.  BMI is a person's weight in kilograms divided by the square of their height in metres.  Weight-loss surgery results in high cura rate for medical conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
