The Diagnostic Imaging Department at the Bon Secours Hospital Cork offers range of procedures as listed below, as well as in addition Cardiac Calcium Screening CT, which is available at a cost of €200. Referral for this test can be made through a GP or Consultant.

As one of the longest establised radiology departments in the country, 2018 saw a complete refurbishment and major investment in new state of the art technology.
Two new CT scanners and a new MRI scanner were opened by Tánaiste Simon Coveney.

X-Rays & Radiation Dose - Information for Patients
CT Dose Information:
If you had an examination in the Radiology Department which used ionising radiation to create images, your Radiology report will include the amount of radiation used.
In CT, when more than one region is scanned, the total dose is displayed twice. This is due to the way that the scan is registered on our system. Therefore, the dose should not be added together and is a duplication. If you have any questions, please email diagnosticImaging@bonsecours.ie

"I qualified with my medical degree from UCC in 1985 and completed my Medical training in Cork University Hospital and recieving my MRCPI in 1993 and FRCPI in 2011. I completed my Registrar Training Scheme in Diagnostic Radiology at St. James's Hospital and Royal College of Radiologists in Ireland & London, leading to FFR RCSI and FRCR. I received an MSc from UCD in 1993 on ‘Radiological Evaluation of the denervated Stomach’. My Radiology Fellowship training began in the Division of Intervention Radiology and Cross-Sectional Imaging at the University Of California Irvine, USA in July 1993. I subsequently joined the staff at UCI until 2002, initially as assistent and then associate Professor being Director of the Divisions of Vascular Interventional Radiology, Interventional Radiology and Ultrasound at different stages. I am a certified member of the American Board of Radiology with added Qualification in Interevention Radiology since 1996.
I am a presently Senior Clinical Lecturer in Radiology with University College Cork & fulltime consultant Radiologist at the Bon secours Cork since 2003.
Dr Nina Marshall

Biography
Dr Marshall graduated from Medical School at Monah University Victoria, Australia in 1999.
Dr Marshall commenced the RANZCR Clinical Radiology Training Programme in Australia in 2003 inclusive of fellowship training in MRI at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne.
Further subspecialty training in musculoskeletal and breast imaging took place in Beaumont Hospital Dublin 2008 and BreastScreen Victoria 2009. In 2008 Dr Marshall was also a Lecturer in Radiology at RCSI, Dublin.
Dr Marshall has been working in CUH since 2010 as a Consultant Radiologist, being awarded a Fellowship ad Eundem from the Faculty of Radiologists in Ireland in 2011.
Her work in breast imaging and musculoskeletal imaging has allowed Dr Marshall to develop interests in family history and personalised breast screening as well as a wide musculoskeletal procedural expertise.
Dr Marshall has been involved with the NCCP group for family history screening as well as completing a Diploma in Health Professionals teaching in UCC in 2021.

Dr Kevin Murphy

Biography
Dr Murphy graduated from UCC in 2005, accruing several undergraduate awards.
Radiology specialist training at Cork & Mercy University Hospitals was completed in 2013, with awarding of the gold medal for final examinations.
A year of lecturing and research was then undertaken with the UCC departments of Anatomy and Radiology. Doctor of Medicine (MD) was bestowed for work presented via thesis.
Dr Murphy completed fellowships in Abdominal Imaging at Vancouver General Hospital, and Musculoskeletal Radiology at St Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, before taking up a post as Consultant Radiologist at Mercy University Hospital in 2017.
Further post graduate training was undertaken in breast radiology at BreastCheck Southern Unit in 2022 and 2023.

Dr O'Connor's clinical and research interests are in Abdominal Imaging and Intervention, low dose CT imaging, imaging morphometrics, and Medical Education including radiation protection education. Dr O’Connor is a general radiologist with subspecialist expertise in abdominal and interventional radiology including oncology, biliary and renal interventions including tumour ablation and portal vein embolisation.
Dr O’Connor has recent has recently served as chairman of the Southern Radiology Society, member of the radiation safety committees of CUH, UCC and the Faculty of Radiologists in Ireland, and external examiner for the NUIG Masters in Radiology programme. He has helped design and deliver radiation protection education in CUH and UCC, radiology teaching to allied professionals in the UCC Sports and Exercise Masters and Masters of radiography programmes. He is an examiner for the European Diploma in Radiology and member of the 2023 European Congress of Radiology program planning committee. He has made many invited national and international presentations, including the Faculty of Radiologists RCSI and European Congress of Radiology.
Dr O’Connor has been awarded funding from the Cork Cancer Research Centre, Enterprise Ireland, CiSA and SURE awards from UCC. Prior awards include the UCC Biodesign Award, Outstanding lecturer award from UCC medical students, presentation awards from ECR and ARRS. Medical students who has supervised have received national awards from the Faculty of Radiologists for their final year medical projects and presented these at national and international conferences. Dr O'Connor has published almost 100 peer reviewed indexed paper publications and 16 book chapters. His H index is 29 with 2600 citations and over 13,000 abstract views on UCCs CORA platform.
