Neurology Identifies, treats and manages neurological disorders of the brain and the nervous system.
Neurology is the study of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves, and the diseases and disorders that may affect it. Common neurological disorders include Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease and Migraine.
A Neurologist works with patients to understand, investigate, diagnose, treat and manage neurological disorders of the brain and the nervous system.

As an inpatient you will receive the highest standard of clinical care. We endeavour to achieve excellence in the delivery of all of our services. Following a comprehensive neurological examination, relevant tests will be ordered. The latest Neuroimaging techniques are available promptly in our Diagnostic Imaging Department including- CT and CT angiogram, MRI and MR Angiogram and Ultra Sound Scanning.
Referrals can be made to the multidisciplinary team of Health professionals. We also have access to highly qualified Specialists in all other areas of medicine.
- A letter of referral from your General Practitioner or Consultant for an Outpatient appointment. We aim to see all new patients within four weeks.
- For urgent cases direct admission can be arranged.

Biography:
Dr O’Sullivan completed his undergraduate training at University College Cork, Ireland, having attained an honours degree MB BCh, BAO and BMedSci.
He subsequently obtained a Certificate of General Professional Training from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, before entering neurology specialist training there.
He undertook a fellowship at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square London and completed his specialist neurology training there and at the Royal London Hospital. Dr O’Sullivan was appointed Consultant Neurologist in St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust, London and also at Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, UK in 2010. He returned to Cork as a Consultant Neurologist at Cork University Hospital in 2011, and transferred to Bon Secours Hospital Cork in April 2017.

Dr O’Sullivan completed a PhD in clinical neurology in 2010 from University College London. He has published over 110 peer-reviewed papers, numerous other publications, and is the author of four book chapters. Follow his Research publication list to see more.

Prof Brian Sweeney, Consultant Neurologist, has joined the medical staff at the Bon Secours Hospital, having previously worked as a consultant at Cork University Hospital for many years.
A UCD graduate, he trained in medicine and neurology in Dublin, Cork and London. He has had a busy clinical practice but also interests in research and education.
He has been the National Clinical Lead for Neurology, National Specialty Director for Neurology at the RCPI and is the current Dean of the Irish Institute of Clinical Neuroscience. He was appointed Honorary Clinical Professor at UCC in 2022.
