Cúnamh Cancer Support
Cúnamh Cancer Support Group is a voluntary organisation supporting cancer patients attending the hospital for over 20 years. New members to the group are always welcome.
Cúnamh responds to the need for support and assistance to people with cancer and those who care for them. It provides support through information days, counselling, cancer rehabilitation programmes, lymphoedema advice and support, complementary therapies, information packs, transport for patients and the spiritual experience of Lourdes. Cúnamh also contributes towards the hidden costs and needs of cancer patients and their families.
Cúnamh relies on the generosity of those who help to organise various fundraising activities Cúnamh also greatly acknowledges the support provided by the staff and management of the hospital.

Daffodil Centre
The Daffodil Centre is located at the college road entrance to the hospital. The Daffodil Centre provides free information, advice, help and support to anyone concerned about or affected by cancer.
The Daffodil Centre is open to all with no referral or appointment necessary. Those who visit our Daffodil Centre can ask questions and talk through issues and concerns with a specialist cancer information nurse and specially trained volunteers. Together they take the time to listen and provide information, advice and support tailored to your needs in confidence. We understand that the information and support needs of those affected by cancer will vary from person to person.
To ensure we meet the needs of our enquirers the information, advice and support on offer in the Daffodil Centre is wide ranging from:
- Cancer prevention and early detection
- Information on various types of cancer, cancer treatments and side effects
- Details of local and national cancer support services and other appropriate sources of support: Finding the right practical help and advice including support for carers, financial and practical help, end of life services, adjusting to life after cancer
Visitors are welcome to browse the many booklets and leaflets. A nurse or volunteer will be on hand to help you find what you are looking for.

Pastoral care team
The pastoral care team offers emotional, social and spiritual care to all patients. We initiate the relationship during diagnosis and this relationship of trust develops over time. Confidentiality is central to this relationship. We meet patients both in the day ward and during inpatient care. We are available through referral.
Listening and spending time with the patient is central to the pastoral relationship. Often anxiety is a major concern for patients and not knowing what the future holds. We also offer support to family members. At family meetings we advocate for the patient in their time of vulnerability. We liaise with the multidisciplinary team.
Pastoral listening and counseling provides a safe haven where comfort, ease and inner relief may be experienced. Spiritual solace and support is also available at this time through receiving the Eucharist daily, experiencing the sacraments of the sick and reconciliation and visiting the hospital chapel.
For many, this is a source of healing and comfort. Patients from all traditions and none are respected equally.
